Upper East Regional Minister Tangoba Abayage has defeated Aviation Minister Kofi Adda in the Navrongo Central race of the governing New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primaries held on Saturday, 20 June 2020.

The regional minister polled 313 votes while the aviation minister polled 269 votes.

Ahead of the polls, Abayage expressed strong optimism of victory.

She said contrary to the perception that she was just testing the waters, she really was in for victory.

"People think I have come to test the waters: ‘She's coming in to show herself and make herself popular’, but no. I'm in this game to win and I'm very certain that when the votes are counted after 1 pm, we are winning this election," Ms. Abayage stated.

"I'm going to win and when I win, I will go further to win the Parliamentary seat and win the Presidency in the constituency for the first time".

"I haven't done badly as a regional minister. If I have been able to manage the region this far, one year and seven months in office, why can't I manage a constituency", she told Ghanaweb.com in an interview.
