The Sunyani Municipal COVID-19 Taskforce on Wednesday forced residents without face masks to sweep as punishment.

This is a new form of punishment the Taskforce forced in the Municipality have introduced to ensure strict compliance with the mandatory wearing of face mask directive.

The COVID-19 Taskforce forced on their routine work of patrolling the municipality and most people who were caught without masks were made weed, sweep and clear gutters as punishment for failing to comply with the mandatory wearing of face masks

Some of the victims in an interview with BA TV News team said, they forgot to take it along with them and others.

Inspector Obeng of the Ghana Immigration Service led the team in Sunyani, told BA TV News Team that the directive is intended to force people to wear face masks as a means of preventing the spread of Covid-19 in the municipality.

He said the offenders would help to keep the city clean, adding “it will also compel the people to wear face masks and stay safe.”

The Taskforce also undertaking night enforcement exercises to ensure that drinking spots and restaurants adhere to social and physical distancing protocols to stem the spread of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the Municipality.

They are also ensuring the compulsory wearing of nose masks by taxi and other commercial drivers as well as traders, such as food vendors who operate at night in the municipality.
